X Down and Dirty covers the down
and dirty of X Window programming. Although higher level widget sets like
Motif can provide 90% of a Graphical User Interface (GUI), they can't provide
everything. Many of these topics are covered in introductory
books, but seldom are details revealed. For instance, trying to use
overlays for the first time can be a frustrating experience and take many
hours to discover the actual formula needed to make them work. This

X Windows is a 5 day course covering
40 hours of combined lecture and lab work. Hands on lab work is heavily
emphasized and class size is limited to 8 students (off site). A solid
understanding of C is required. Students should be familiar with pointers
and double pointers. Knowledge of using Linux or Unix is helpful. Motif
experience or the Motif_1 class or equivalent is required. Students should
already be familiar with the Main Window, creating Widgets, and the MainLoop.
