HS-5 is the premier helicopter squadron for the vUSN. We primarily fly the SH-60B, although we also cross train in other platforms such as the CH-53 Pavelow, SH-3, SH-2, and Osprey

Our goals are to have fun, develop our piloting skills, and assist the vUSN in carrying out it's assigned missions.

Some of our missions have been:

• Carrier Flight Operations SAR
• Photographic Reconnaisance
• Search and Rescue
• Anti-Submarine Warfare
• Anti-Ship Warfare and Over-the-Horizon Targeting
• Vertical Replenishment
• SEAL and UDT insertion and extraction
• Combat Search And Rescue(CSAR)

Our small squadron has a big impact in the vUSN. Almost all the action is down low, close to the ground. If you are interested in joining our elite team contact the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer.

Here is the HX-1 SH-60 some of us fly. It is a bit harder to fly than the Hovercontrol bird. Be gentle with it. 6M
